The website aims at enlarging the discourse on diversity and pluralism with the notion of neurodiversity. Focus is on the cultures of autism, schizophrenia and developmental disabilities. Approaching these cultures from a humanities oriented and artistic perspective rather than reproducing the medical model, still dominating current representations of people who are differently brained, this website contributes to the empowerment of many. Participants: Martijn Dekker (activist), Juul Sadee (artist) Jet Isarin (philosopher), Janneke Lam (critical theorist), Ruud Hendriks (philosopher), Hans van Dalen (psychologist), Jacqueline Schoonheim (professor of law). Together we founded the DeCenter. All of us criticizing the culture of the norm, either because of being differently brained (two having a disorder in the autism spectrum, one with a history of being hospitalised in a psychiatric institution), or experiencing the normative culture a less just than is often assumed as the result of having children with autism.
